Description
Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) is a cardiac regulatory protein, which regulates the interaction of actin and myosin in the presence of calcium. cTnI is exclusively present in the myocardium, unlike its counterpart Cardiac Troponin T (cTnT), that is found to be minimally expressed in skeletal muscles. Measurement of cTnI levels in the serum is indicative of the extent of damage to the cardiac muscle. cTnI levels in the serum are not visible until 4 hours after the onset of myocardial damage. Serous levels of cTnI indicative of myocardial infraction are in the range of 0.1 2 ?g/litre.
