Blood Tubes K2E (EDTA) 4ml
- These Vacutainer blood tubes are used when drawing blood. The tubes contain a vacuum that makes them suck the blood out of the vein themselves. A vacutainer is connected to a venoject, which is the actual needle with holder for the tube. This type of vacutainer has a Hemogard closure
- The Vacutainer blood tubes are available in various types with caps in various colours. This color cap has a meaning. This is because it indicates the anticoagulant contained in the tubes.
- A tube with a purple cap is covered with ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA).
What is an EDTA collection tube?
- EDTA has an anticoagulant function by chelating with Ca ions that are essential for clotting.
- Because EDTA forms a complex with calcium, it is no longer available for clotting.
- EDTA causes the blood cells and platelets to swell after a few hours. A blood sample with a purple cap should therefore be examined as soon as possible.
- BD Reference number: 368861
The BD Vacutainer EDTA Blood Collection Tubes have a Purple Stopper.
BD Vacutainer EDTA Tubes are plastic sample tubes for collecting whole blood. These collection tubes are coated on the inside with K2EDTA (Potassium Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid). This material acts as an anticoagulant to prevent the samples from clotting.
