Description

Biotin is a small biomolecule and an essential cofactor for metabolic enzymes that is required by all organisms for life. Biotin is a relatively small, water soluble molecule that does not interfere with the macromolecules it is added to. Most importantly for biotechnology applications, biotin is amenable to conjugation to proteins for use in biochemical assays. Biotin binds to avidin and streptavidin with an extremely high affinity; an attraction that is one of the strongest and most stable non-covalent interaction found in nature. Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is an enzyme which is defined as oxidoreductase that utilizes organic peroxide compounds using hydroperoxide as electron acceptor. Horseradish Peroxidase is brightly colored especially under the near-ultraviolet light. This property makes it useful for attaching to “transparent” proteins so that they can be seen under different wavelengths. Horseradish peroxidase is highly active and stable enzyme commonly used as a detection reagent in immunoassays such as western blot, immunohistochemistry and ELISA. ’s Biotinylated Horseradish Peroxidase contains 1-2 biotins per HRP as estimated by HABA assay using ’s Biotin Quantitation Kit (Colorimetric) (Cat. No. K811) and it is free of any unconjugated biotin.
