Description: Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP-4) belongs to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling family and has a very broad biological role in development. It plays an essential role in many developmental processes, including neurogenesis, vascular development, angiogenesis and osteogenesis. BMP-4 is highly conserved evolutionarily. It is found in early embryonic development in the ventral marginal zone and in the eye, heart blood and otic vesicle. BMP4 is a critical signaling molecule required for the early differentiation of the embryo and establishing of a dorsal-ventral axis. BMP-4 also plays important roles in adipose tissue: it is essential for white adipogenesis, and promotes adipocyte differentiation. Additionally, it is also important for brown fat, where it induces UCP1, related to non-shivering thermogenesis. ’s BMP-4 (Mouse) ELISA Kit is based on the Sandwich-ELISA principle. The micro-ELISA plate providedthis kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Mouse BMP-4. Standards or samples are added to the micro-ELISA plate wells that bind to the specific antibody. Then a biotinylated detection antibody specific for Mouse BMP-4 and Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugate are added successively to each micro plate well and incubated. The wells are washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and blue color develops in proportion to the amount of BMP-4 bound. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution and turns color. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of Mouse BMP-4. The concentration of Mouse BMP-4 in the samples can be calculated by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.
