CA-125 also known as mucin 16 is a large glycoprotein belonging to the mucin family. It plays a protective role at the apical surface of epithelial cells and is expressed by the epithelial lining of several organs such as ocular surface, tracheal surface, female reproductive tract, etc. It is a widely used tumor marker for diagnosis and monitoring of ovarian cancer. Since it is increased in a wide variety of conditions, it is not used for screening but is used to monitor the treatment and recurrence of ovarian cancer. ’s CA-125 (Human) ELISA Kit is used for the quantitative detection of CA-125 in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological fluids. It is based on the principle of sandwich ELISA. The capture antibody is pre-coated on 96-well plates. The standards, test samples and biotin conjugated detection antibody are added to the wells subsequently, and washed with wash buffer. HRP-Streptavidin is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected using TMB-substrate. Finally, an acidic stop solution terminates the enzymatic reaction. The color developed is directly proportional to the amount of CA-125 in the sample.
