BACKGROUND: The HI149 monoclonal antibody specifically reacts with human CD1a, a 49kDA type I membrane glycoprotein. It is expressed on dendritic cells, Langerhans cells, and cortical thymocytes. CD1a plays a role in antigen presentation and, like MHC Class I, it non-covalently associates with Beta2-microglobulin.
