Background: Interleukin-8 (IL-8), also known as CXCL8, GCP-1, and NAP-1, belongs to the neutrophil-specific CXC family of chemokines. This chemokine is secreted by a variety of cell types including monocyte/macrophages, T cells, neutrophils, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and various tumor cell lines in response to inflammatory stimuli, in response to an inflammatory stimulus and acts by recruiting neutrophils, T-cells and basophils to the site of inflammation.
