Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1, HAVCR1, TIM1) is a 104 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the TIM (T-cell transmembrane, immunoglobulin, and mucin) family of proteins. It is expressed in the kidney, liver, and spleen. KIM-1 expression is negligible in normal kidneys but is significantly upregulated in the proximal renal tubular cells following acute kidney injury (AKI). Hence, KIM-1 serves as an efficient biomarker for AKI. KIM-1 plays a crucial role in regulating the immune system in response to viral infection. It serves as an entry receptor for HAV, Zaire Ebola virus (EBOV), Dengue virus, Hepatitis C virus (HCV), HIV, and SARS-CoV-2. KIM-1 is also involved in the pathogenesis of several immune diseases such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, allergy, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ’s KIM-1 (Human) ELISA kit quantitatively measures KIM-1 in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. HRP-Streptavidin is added to the plate, and post-incubation any unattached conjugates are washed off by Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected using TMB-substrate. Finally, an acidic stop solution terminates the enzymatic reaction. The color developed is directly proportional to the amount of KIM-1 in the sample or standard.
