BACKGROUND: This gene encodes an integral membrane protein that belongs to the synaptobrevin/vesicle-associated membrane protein subfamily of soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors (SNAREs) . The encoded protein is involved in the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane.
