Description

Acetaldehyde Assay Kit (Fluorometric) | K2101-100

Description: Acetaldehyde (ACH), also known as Ethanal, is one of the most important aldehydes occurring widely in nature and is also manufactured in industry. ACH occurs naturally in foods such as coffee, bread, wine, cheese etc. and is also used to produce chemicals such as acetic acid, dyes, disinfectants, perfumes, resins etc. In humans, ACH is toxic and is generated during ethanol metabolism by the liver enzymes but can also be converted to less toxic acetic acid by the action of mitochondrial acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2). ACH is a carcinogen and can lead to mitochondrial abnormalities, growth suppression, impairment of microtubule function, failure in DNA repair etc. Additionally, increased ACH levels are associated with neurological pathologies including stroke, Wernike encephalopathy, brain damage in prenatal infants, Alzheimer disease etc. ’s Acetaldehyde Assay Kit provides a quick and sensitive way to dete acetaldehyde in various sample types. In this assay, ALDH2 catalyzes the oxidation of acetaldehyde to generate NADH, which then couples with the ACH probe to produce a fluorescence signal measured at Ex/Em = 535/587 nm. The fluorescence signal is directly proportional to the concentration of ACH in the sample. The assay can detect as low as 10 µM of ACH under the assay conditions.
