The research-grade biosimilar is a human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that is produced by recombinant DNA technology in CHO cells. The antibody is a potent antagonist of programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) function. It inhibits the interaction of PD-L1 with PD-1 and CD80 and activates T-lymphocytes to kill cancer cells. The monoclonal antibody does not cause antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. The original monoclonal antibody is approved by the FDA for the treatment of metastatic urothelial carcinoma and in combination with etoposide, carboplatin, or cisplatin for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC)
