Description: CXCR4 is a chemokine receptor that recognizes the stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1). CXCR4 is involved in signal transduction through intracellular calcium increase and enhancing MAP kinase activation, and is also involved in AKT signaling. CXCR4 plays a role in the regulation of cell migration, and is involved in hematopoiesis and vascularization. Along with CD4, CXCR4 acts to support HIV entry into cells. High CXCR4 expression levels are observed in many breast cancers.
