BACKGROUND: Transcription Factor AREB6 / transcription factor 8 /zinc finger homeodomain enhancer-binding protein inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. May be responsible for transcriptional repression of the IL-2 gene. Enhances or represses the promoter activity of the ATP1A1 gene depending on the quantity of cDNA and on the cell type.ZEB1 encodes a zinc finger transcription factor that represses T-lymphocyte-specific IL2 gene (MIM 147680) expression by binding to a negative regulatory domain 100 nucleotides 5-prime of the IL2 transcription start site (Williams et al., 1991 [PubMed 1840704]) .
