Description

Cytarabine is a cytosine analog that acts as a potent inhibitor of eukaryotic cellular and viral replicative DNA synthesis. It is triphosphorylated in vivo to produce ara-CTP, a competitive inhibitor of DNA polymerases α and β (Kis = 4 and 32 µM, respectively). Cytarabine is effective in the treatment of leukemias. It can also have antiviral actions on certain types of viruses.
