Description
DiI is a widely used lipophilic, carbocyanine membrane dye that labels cell membranes by inserting its two long (C18 carbon) hydrocarbon chains into the lipid bilayer. This dye is used primarily for optical recordings of membrane voltage and for studies of membrane fluidity. Displays intense, long-lasting staining of live neurons in vivo and in vitro. Ex.: 550 nm; Em: 564 nm
