BACKGROUND: The DNAJA4 protein is the mammalian homolog of the chaperone HSP40 (1) and acts as a co-chaperone with the heat shock protein HSP70 (2) . DNAJA4 is highly expressed in heart and testis, accounting for approximately 1% of total protein in mouse heart (2) . DNAJA4 is also regulated by the sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 2 (SREBF2) and plays a role in the synthesis of cholesterol (3) .
