Background: Homogalacturonan (HG) is a pectic polysaccharide, composed of α-1, 4 linked galacturonic acid residues. Pectin consists of complex net of polysacchari.des which are found in the primary cell walls of terrestial plants and are enriched in non-woody parts. Pectin acts as an extracellular glue which binds cells together.
