Background: Myristoylated alanine-rich protein kinase C substrate (MARCKS), also designated 80K or 80K-L, has been identified as a major cellular substrate for protein kinase C. Human MARCKS is a 332 amino acid protein with a calculated molecular weight of 31.534 kDa; however, it has been shown to run at 80-87 kDa on Western blot. The plasma membrane bound protein dissociates from the membrane upon phosphorylation by various PKC isoforms. In NIH/3T3 fibroblasts, PKC α and PKC ε, but not PKC δ, are responsible for MARCKS phosphorylation. MARCKS has been found to bind calmodulin, Actin and Synapsin and is a filamentous (F) Actin crosslinking protein.
Storage & Stability: Store at 4°C short term. Aliquot and store at -20°C long term. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Specificity: p-MARCKS (S163) polyclonal Antibody detects endogenous levels of MARCKS only when phosphorylated at Ser163.
Molecular Weight: ~ 32, 75, 87 kDa
Note: For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedure.
Alternative Names: Myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate; MARCKS; Protein kinase C substrate, 80 kDa protein, light chain; 80K-L protein; PKCSL; MARCKS; MACS; PRKCSL
Immunogen: Synthetic phosphopeptide derived from human MARCKS around the phosphorylation site of Serine 163.
