Description
Myoglobin is an oxygen carrier predominantly expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells. The monomeric protein is responsible for the storage and facilitated transport of oxygen from the cell membrane to mitochondria. Myoglobin also plays a role in regulating nitric oxide levels.
