Background: RPS24 (Ribosomal Protein S24) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with RPS24 include Diamond-Blackfan Anemia 3 and Rps24-Related Diamond-Blackfan Anemia. Among its related pathways are Viral mRNA Translation and Metabolism. Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. Together these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. RPS24 encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit. The protein belongs to the S24E family of ribosomal proteins. It is located in the cytoplasm. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for RPS24. As is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene dispersed through the genome. Mutations in RPS24 result in Diamond-Blackfan anemia.

Alternative Names: 40S ribosomal protein S24; Small ribosomal subunit protein eS24
