Streptomycin sulfate targets primarily Gram positive bacteria and Mycobacterium. Interestingly, streptomycin has been found to be effective against certain β-lactam sensitive VRE or vancomycin resistant Enterococcus. Can be used as a selection agent in several types of isolation media.
