Description
An aminoglycoside antibiotic useful for inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis at the level of initiation inhibition. Streptomycin sulfate targets primarily Gram positive bacteria and Mycobacterium. Interestingly, streptomycin has been found to be effective against certain β-lactam sensitive VRE or vancomycin resistant Enterococcus. Can be used as a selection agent in several types of isolation media.
