Description

UHRF1 belongs to a subfamily of RING-finger type E3 ubiquitin ligases. In addition to its action as a E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase for target proteins such as histone H3 and PML, UHRF1 also binds to specific DNA sequences. UHRF1 recruits histone deacetylaase to regulate gene expression. The expression of UHRF1 peaks during late G1 and persists through G2 and M phases of the cell cycle, playing a key role in the G1/S transition through its regulation of retinoblastoma and topoisomerase. UHRF1 also participates in the p53-dependent DNA damage checkpoint. UHRF1 is considered as a therapeutic target as it is upregulated in various cancers, including colorectal cancer.
