Background: Zearalenone is a RAL and F-2 mycotoxin produced by some Fusarium and Gibberella species. It is a potent estrogenic metabolite and is the primary toxin causing infertility, abortion or other breeding problems, especially in swine. Zearalenone is found in a many cereal crops, such as maize, barley, oats, wheat, rice, sorghum as well as in bread all over the world.
