Description
AC-186 is a potent and selective estrogen receptor β (ERβ) agonist. It shows EC₅₀ values of 6 and 5000 nM for ERβ and ERα respectively in functional assays. Decrease in the sex steroids is associated with increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. AC-186 exhibits gender selective neuroprotection in male animals in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease. AC-186 in combination with ACP-105 increases the amyloid-β degrading enzymes neprilysin and insulin-degrading enzyme, decreases amyloid-β levels in the brain as well as improves cognition in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s Disease.
