Description
Livin/BIRC7 is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family. Its inhibits apoptosis through the inhibition of CASP3, CASP7, CASP9 and shows E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity. It promotes Smac/DIABLO degradation by ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. It is expressed in fetal tissues and most solid tumors in humans. Livin/BIRC7 expression is a novel prognostic marker in adult acute leukemia. It might be involved in adrenocortical tumorigenesis and represents a new molecular marker of malignancy.
