Description
Kirromycin belongs to elfermycin group of antibiotics that inhibits as a protein biosynthesis inhibitor. It is shown to interfere with the peptide transfer reaction by acting on elongation factor Tu (EF-tu). This prevents the release of EF-Tu from the bacterial ribosome after GTP hydrolysis, inducing EF-Tu dependent hydrolysis of GTP.
