Alternate Name: PALB, Transthyretin, ATTR, CTS, CTS1, PALB, TBPA, HEL111, HsT2651, TTR, Prealbumin
User Note: Optimal dilutions for each application to be determined by the researcher.
BACKGROUND: FUNCTION: Thyroid hormone-binding protein. Probably transports thyroxine from the bloodstream to the brain.
DISEASE: Defects in TTR are a cause of hyperthyroxinemia [MIM:176300].
SUBUNIT: Homotetramer.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the transthyretin family.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted protein.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Most abundant in the choroid plexus. Also present in the liver.
DOMAIN: Each monomer has two 4-stranded β sheets and the shape of a prolate ellipsoid. Antiparallel β-sheet interactions link monomers into dimers. A short loop from each monomer forms the main dimer-dimer interaction. These two pairs of loops separate the opposed, convex β-sheets of the dimers to form an internal channel.
