Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is a serum albumin protein that has numerous biochemical applications including ELISAs, immunoblots, high content screening assays, and immunohistochemistry. It is also used as a nutrient in cell and microbial culture. In restriction digests, BSA is used to stabilize some enzymes during digestion of DNA and to prevent adhesion of the enzyme to reaction tubes and other vessels. This protein does not affect other enzymes that do not need it for stabilization. BSA is also commonly used to determine the quantity of other proteins, by comparing an unknown quantity of protein to known amounts of BSA. The TriboTM BSA Solution is formulated with bovine serum albumin Fraction V in 1x PBS (pH 7.0-7.4). It contains 2% bovine serum albumin Fraction V (20 mg/mL) in the buffer. The solution can be used for in vitro assays of molecular biology and protein assay.
Applications:
- Enzyme stabilization during purification and/or storage.
- Enzymatic reactions where the absence of nucleases are essential.
- A blocking agent to minimize background in DNA and protein labeling experiments.
- Prevents adhesion of enzymes to reaction tips and tube surfaces.
