Description

Cathepsin L (Active), Human Liver | 7539

Description: Cathepsin L is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase that plays a major role in intracellular protein catabolism. Substrates for Cathepsin L include collagen and elastin, as well as alpha-1 protease inhibitor, a major controlling element of neutrophil elastase activity. Cathepsin L has been implicated in myofibril necrosis in some muscle diseases, and in the renal tubular response to proteinuira. Levels of Cathepsin L is a strong predictor of relapse and survival following primary breast tumor treatment. Recently, Cathepsin L has been shown to cleave the S1 subunit of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which allows viral intry into the cell.
